Xavier Samuel as Riley Biers in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Xavier Samuel as ‘Riley Biers’ – David Slade

Xavier Samuel (“Riley Biers” in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) claims that he did his homework with co-star Bryce Dallas Howard (“Victoria” in Eclipse) for at least one scene in the film.

Samuel, who was featured prominently in the final trailer for Eclipse, has been literally turning heads the world over, and he is featured in ELLE for his coming “heartthrob” status.

In his interview with the publication, Samuel revealed that the film’s kissing scene between himself and Howard was one that they paid special attention to.

(You might remember that some photos from the set of filming for their kiss scene popped up online last fall.)

To ready themselves for that moment, Samuel revealed, the two “watched YouTube clips of the best kisses in cinematic history for research.”

To prepare for the attention being a part of the Twilight Saga would bring him, Xavier Samuel is “tak[ing] a leaf from Rob and Kristen’s book,” so one has to wonder if Samuel and Howard looked to some of the “Edward and Bella” kisses during their research.

Xavier Samuel Talks David Slade

Xavier Samuel as ‘Riley Biers’ – Phoot: David Slade

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Xavier Samuel came out and confirmed a suspicion that many have had about the film’s director, David Slade.

“He’s uber intelligent, very technically astute director,” Samuel told 9 News.

Throughout filming for Eclipse (as well as before and after), Slade has been active on his Twitter page, issuing updates and photographs both Twilight-related and not.

From the images and statements, many have gathered the impression that, if nothing else, David Slade is certainly methodical and precise. So, Samuel’s statements might serve as a bit of reassurance in that regard.

“It seems like David has approached it very differently to the previous directors – I think he’s really embracing the darker side of it, which is really cool,” Xavier Samuel continued.

Samuel, who portrays “Riley Biers” in the film (last name given by the filmmakers and not the book series), has enjoyed a great deal of recognition in his home nation, Australia, and in the film industry at large as a result of his work in the Twilight saga. “Since shooting Eclipse, Samuel said he’s been receiving more new scripts than ever but hasn’t signed on to anything else yet,” reports 9 News.

Xavier Samuel On His Celebrity Status

Posted in Eclipse, Movies with tags on December 27, 2009 by chasingcullens

Before joining the cast of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Xavier Samuel was certainly no stranger to the film world, and he’d completed a handful of other films – including one (The Loved Ones) which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.

According to a recent feature in his local newspaper, though, his Twilight-related celebrity status has thrown him for a bit of a loop.

“I wasn’t used to that sort of attention, so I just took it in my stride, I guess,” he told Adelaide Now. “I think Robert [Pattinson] and Kristen [Stewart] do a really good job in dealing with fans. They seem to handle it really well, so if I can take a leaf out of their book I should be OK.” Good rule of thumb?

As for Eclipse, Samuel (who portrays “Riley”) gave a few intelligent words of insight as well. “If you want to know what happens in the movie, just read the book.” Well, yeah. On the other hand, particularly where Samuel is concerned, there’ve been some notable deviations in the storyline of Eclipse for the film – ones which, so far, have been well received. For instance, there was some speculation offered up this October about a scene with “Riley” being the first of the film – a scene which, thanks to the first-person perspective of “Bella” in the books, was as-yet-unseen for readers. Should be interesting, no?

Daniel Cudmore On Beating (literally) RPattz

The thought of Robert Pattinson getting hurt is just too much too bear, isn’t it?

But that’s exactly what could have happened if anything had gone wrong during his and Daniel Cudmore‘s big, violent fight scene in New Moon.

Cudmore, the Tom Brady-esque hunkster who plays Volturi vampire Felix, said some of the stunts got a little too close for comfort when he and Pattinson went at it.

“Because of my contacts, my peripheral vision was off, so there were a couple of times where I thought I was going to really hit him,” Cudmore recalled at the New Moon premiere in L.A. “Luckily, I didn’t.”

Maybe that’s why Pattinson seemed a bit nervous when they first began working on the scene…

“Rob hasn’t done a lot of stunt work, so he was kind of apprehensive about getting into it,” Cudmore said. “But the very cool thing about it is he really started to enjoy and embrace it.”

Christopher Heyerdahl, who plays Volturi badass Marcus, agrees.

“Rob was a real pro, and he was being chucked around like a rag doll,” Heyerdahl said. “It was hair-raising, but fun to watch. We got to sit back in our fancy robes and just watch.”

What more did we learn at the premiere earlier this week? Here are the highlights:

• Pattinson would jam with costar and fellow musician Jackson Rathbone in their hotel rooms. “We’d do ‘Let It Shine,’ ” Rathbone said.

Alex Meraz insists his wife doesn’t mind all the attention he’s getting for being one of the shirtless werewolf boys. “She’s good,” he said. “It could be worse. I could be doing porn.”

• Cast members do worry that fans sometimes have problems distinguishing between the actors and the characters they play. Xavier Samuel plays Riley in the just-wrapped Eclipse: “We just had a great time hatching plans to seek revenge on Bella,” Samuel said of his work opposite Bryce Dallas Howard (Victoria). “I hope the fans will forgive me for attempting to kill their beloved Bella.”

Nikki Reed insisted on wearing a wig for New Moon. “In Twilight, it was my real hair,” she said. “But I put my foot down because I went bald after the first movie.”

• Sweet-faced li’l Dakota Fanning, who plays the Volturi’s evil-eyed Jane, is really digging the dark side: “It’s more fun to play the bad girl than the good girl.”
