Rob & Kristen don’t talk about Twilight after working hours.

Kristen StewartKristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson shot to fame in the Twilight movie franchise — but when the cameras stop rolling, they hardly talk about it!

Speaking to Britain’s Independent newspaper, the 19-year-old actress says she and Pattinson don’t compare notes on the Twilight phenomenon.

“The funny thing is we haven’t really talked about it,” she said. “Although we can commiserate and be like, ‘ugh, it’s crazy’.”

Referring to the Facebook/Twitter age in which she does not participate, Stewart added, “I do feel that nowadays everyone perceives you the same way.

“I prefer something I can touch! But now everybody knows everything about you. Even your parents have to know where you are because of course you have a cellphone.

“They can always reach you. You can’t even have a private life away from your family, it’s like everything is very hands-on.”

Stewart recently revealed that she almost quit acting after auditioning constantly for a year and not getting any parts.

“It took a really long time until I was totally over it, and then came my last audition,” she said. “I went to it and I didn’t even want to. My mum said: ‘Well, this is the last one. You don’t have to go to any more.’

“And that was the first movie I got.”

Recent Twilight Saga Poll

Posted in Breaking Dawn, Eclipse, New Moon, twilight with tags on August 13, 2009 by chasingcullens

new-moon-posterWith the casting whirlwind that has been The Twilight Saga: Eclipse over the past few weeks (with newcomers Bryce Dallas Howard, Xavier Samuel, Jodelle Ferland, Jack Huston, and Catalina Sandino Moreno), the coming trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon (at this weekend’s Bandslam opening), Twilight‘s big showing at the Teen Choice Awards, and the start of Eclipse filming next week, one might be tempted to think that the news capacity for Twilight fans is on absolute overload.

Far to the contrary, though.

Recently, readers of this column were polled (via Facebook) as to what items of news they were most feverishly looking forward to (aside from the aforementioned).

One thing fans are looking forward to is the announcement of who will portray Leah Clearwater in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The same is true for casting of Seth Clearwater, Leah’s brother in the series. Both of these characters play an important part of Eclipse, but they are an even bigger part of Breaking Dawn.

Fans are also eager to know the full song and artists list for the New Moon soundtrack, a compilation that is due in October (approximately five weeks prior to the film’s release).

Obviously, there are many who look forward to an announcement as to the status of Breaking Dawn as a film – particularly, whether and when the film will be made.

Finally, fans also hope to see Midnight Sun make it to the bookshelves as a finished, complete product of Stephenie Meyer‘s writing.

While some of these pieces of news – the soundtrack for instance – are just a matter of time, others – such as Midnight Sun – are less surely on their way.

Steph’s team fights back on plagiarism accusation.

You may have heard the story, but you didn’t hear it here. Why? Well, as Twilight series author Stephenie Meyer‘s team states, “The claim that Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer somehow infringes on an alleged book by someone named Jordan Scott is completely without merit.”

The response issued by Twilight Lexicon, to be sure, is accurate. Says TL, “Loose fantasy ideas are not copyrightable, otherwise all vampire fiction would have stopped at Bram Stoker. Neither are loose romance plots copyrightable, or Harlequin would not be a leader in romance.”

It is true that under the federal United States copyright statutes, facts, ideas, words, and short phrases are simply not copyrightable – for reasons eloquently identified by the Lexicon’s analysis. There also exists a doctrine of “independent origination” which indicates that where an artist is unlikely to have seen or directly copied from a prior work, but comes up with something similar (that’s not to say that the alleged materials in question were in fact similar), there is no infringement.

The allegations contained in the materials submitted to TMZ simply reflect a contention that a side-by-side portrayal of vaguely familiar sentiments contained in Breaking Dawn and Jordan Scott’s piece called The Nocturne is worthy of a cease and desist order. The claim is that the storylines and some of the dialogue or prose in the two are similar – though, a reading of the documents might lead you to disagree with that assertion all your own – and that this gives rise to a federal case.

The continued statement by Stephenie Meyer’s team says it all, in response to these claims.

Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim. Ms. Scott’s attorney has yet to furnish us with a copy of the book to support this claim as requested. The world of The Twilight Saga and the stories within it are entirely the creation of Ms. Meyer. Her books have been a phenomenal sensation, and perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success. This claim is frivolous and any lawsuit will be defended vigorously.

You can read the rest of Twilight Lexicon’s rebuttal, which includes a great deal of interesting information about the so-called “plaintiff” here.

Harry Potter eclipsed by Twilight Saga.

USA Today reports that Harry Potter is no match for the Twilight Saga

Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the teen-vampire romance series, entered the list at No. 1 on Aug. 2, 2008. Its sales and those of Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse, the first three books, have remained staggering.

This week, Meyer’s novels are Nos. 4, 5, 6 and 7 on USA TODAY’s list.

Rowling, overall, has sold more books than Meyer — her seven-book series about boy wizard Harry Potter has 143 million copies in print in the USA, while Meyer has sold 40 million copies of her four books. But Rowling can’t match Meyer’s control of the list.

Breaking Dawn and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the two authors’ fourth installments, entered the list at No. 1, but Meyer’s series has had more staying power.

The Twilight books have stayed in the list’s top 10 for 52 consecutive weeks. They held the first four spots a total of 13 weeks in the past year.

Rowling’s first four Potter books were top 10 for 13 consecutive weeks, 24 weeks total, for the first year after Goblet’s publication and held the first four spots for two weeks.

Breaking Dawn broke the first-day sales record for publisher Hachette at 1.3 million copies.

Based on aggressive marketing of Meyer’s series, this November’s release of the film version of New Moon and the upcoming holiday gift-buying season, Twilight books could dominate the list well into 2010.

Taylor Lautner, Kristin Stewart, Robert Pattinson, New Moon

112 days.

That’s all that stands between the release of the next installment of The Twilight Saga and its endless droves of fans around the world.

But fret not, because those genius New Moon folks have taken to the Web and launched The World of Twilight, an official site for all things Edward Cullen (all right, Bella and Jacob, too, but really, it’s all about Robert Pattinson, isn’t it?).

The website mainly focuses on November’s New Moon, but also encompasses the original phenomenon, Twilight, and “Coming Soon” pages for installments three and four, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

The World of Twilight also boasts tons of video, behind-the-scenes pictures, story descriptions (as if we all don’t already know) and even links to an online store. Not too shabby.

Definitely worth a glance if you have any time in the next three months or so. How else would you possibly fill the New Moon void?
