Soundtrack Details Still Scarce

With the June 8th release of the “Eclipse” soundtrack on the horizon, fans had hoped to know more about the track lineup by now. The album went on sale on Amazon around April 19th, sparking hope that a listing of artists and songs would soon follow. Some two weeks later, though Summit reached out to fans through the official Twilight Facebook site to share other key news about the films (e.g., Bill Condon to direct “Breaking Dawn” and Stephenie Meyer to produce), it seems to have slowed down with news about “Eclipse”.

April 23rd was the date that the “Eclipse” theatrical trailer and official web site went public, and a live chat with three cast members was held; this could have been an opportunity to follow-up the pre-sale release with a bit of info about the soundtrack, yet details were conspicuously absent from forthcoming news.

Despite lack of information, Amazon pre-sales seem to be doing well. As of the writing of this article, Amazon lists the “Eclipse” soundtrack as ranked at #82 in music, #72 in the pop genre and #11 in soundtracks. Given the popularity of the first two soundtracks, optimism about the third is hardly surprising. Still, fans should not ignore that “Twilight”, “New Moon”, and “Eclipse” all had different production teams, and, consequently, had different approaches to choosing the music. Indeed, the “Twilight” soundtrack was better-loved than that of “New Moon”.

So, what could score the “Eclipse” soundtrack a home run? More memorable hits like Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole” and Paramore’s “Decode”. Fans also seem to love the idea of including more music that includes the stars of the film, and would welcome an encore from Rob or the addition of a song from Jackson Rathbone’s band, 100 Monkeys.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s soundtrack compilation is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 8, or about three weeks before the movie opens on North American screens.

At this stage, what songs will be included in the soundtrack album is most anybody’s guess. According to earlier reports, Muse’s song for the film is out. Others have it that just about everybody, from Adam Lambert to Justin Bieber (dueting with Robert Pattinson…), will be heard on the album’s soundtrack. Placido Domingo anyone? What about Joan Jett?

Band 100 MonkeysJackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper Hale in the Twilight Saga movies, has reportedly also offered songs from his band.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse score has been composed by three-time Academy Award-winner Howard Shore, among whose credits are the Lord of the Rings trilogy; David Cronenberg’s Crash, A History of Violence and Eastern Promises; and David Fincher’s Se7en. Now, that sounds promising.

Although the June 8 date is no longer on the Amazon page for the Eclipse soundtrack — it was removed sometime after it first appeared on Monday, April 19 — it is the correct release date according to MTV, which received confirmation from a representative for Atlantic Records.

Those who want to preorder the Eclipse soundtrack can already do so despite the announcement on the album’s Amazon page that “a release date has not yet been set for this title.” In fact, lots of people have been doing so, as the Eclipse album currently (early hours, April 20) ranks #17 among Amazon’s “music” bestsellers and #2 among its movie soundtracks.

Directed by David Slade from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opens on June 30. The final official Eclipse trailer will be shown on Oprah next Friday.

The ‘American Idol’ alum’s single ‘Empty As I Am’, which didn’t make the cut for the soundtrack of ‘The Twilight Saga’s New Moon’, has slipped out for listening pleasure.

A ‘s song which is supposedly to be included in “” soundtrack has leaked out. On Tuesday, December 22, her track “Empty As I Am” has been made available for free listening on YouTube.

About the song, as being reported by OK! Magazine, it was written by the winner of “American Idol” season 1 before Summit Entertainment has even approached her to work on the movie’s soundtrack. The 27-year-old once described the track as a “sweet song with a sad melody.”

Back in June, Kelly Clarkson was rumored being considered to make a contribution to the theme songs of the “” sequel. E! Online at the time claimed that the chosen song was her unreleased single “Did You?”.

Clarkson herself had previously expressed her adoration for the -starring movie. Earlier this year, the “I Do Not Hook Up” hitmaker said, “Finished the Twilight books (so did my mom and sister) and we cannot wait for the next movie ‘New Moon’ … Although it’s a classic it doesn’t have Edward Cullen in it so I pray it holds my attention. Ha!”

In addition, the soundtrack has remained in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 since its release.

The musical companion to the highly anticipated second installment of Summit Entertainment’s film franchise features exclusive tracks from some of modern music’s most gifted and admired artists, including Thom Yorke, Muse, The Killers, Anya Marina, and Death Cab for Cutie, who contributed the album’s first single, “Meet Me On the Equinox.” The track is currently #8 at Modern Rock radio.

In other news, “TWILIGHT-ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK” took home the award for Favorite Soundtrack at this year’s American Music Awards. “TWILIGHT” has currently sold more than 2.3 million copies in the U.S. alone and over 3.5 million copies worldwide. Great news for both soundtracks!  I loved the Twilight soundtrack, but I think I love the New Moon soundtrack even more.   After watching New Moon, I was blown away by the music during the scenes.

New Moon Soundtrack released

The New Moon soundtrack is now available! I just purchased the mp3 version from Amazon (for just $4.99!), and it’s a stellar collection of tracks.

iTunes also has it available for $14.99 with bonus material.

So, the big question is: what do you think of the soundtrack?

In the words of OK Go, who contribute a track:

“It’s a really amazing set of bands. It’s a huge deal,” Damien said. “We grew up listening to the ‘Pretty in Pink’ soundtrack, and I sort of feel like this ‘New Moon’ soundtrack is like ‘Pretty in Pink’ for the new generation….”
