Jackson Rathbone Talks More Jasper

Posted in Eclipse, Movies with tags on April 12, 2010 by chasingcullens

Right now you want to be Jackson Rathbone.  The actor is on a serious, serious roll.  He plays Jasper Hale in the blockbuster Twilight series and has The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on the way later this year.  He co-stars in the much-anticipated fantasy-adventure The Last Airbender (2010), due out this summer, in Girlfriend (2010), an indie drama he also co-produced, and in a very creepy little horror film called Dread (2010), just released on DVD from Lionsgate.

Probably even more people are excited about The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.  What will we see of Jasper in the next film?

We get to see a lot of his back story, which is what I’m really excited about putting out there.  It’s back in the Civil War era.  You see him turned into a vampire.  Back when he was a human he was in the Civil War and he runs across these vampires — three beautiful women vampires — in the desert, and they turn him.  And he becomes a warrior who trains these vampire armies.  We see a lot of that and see a lot of Jasper’s back story, which is really cool because in Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon you could kind of see that he’s still dealing with this new way of life, especially now that his adoptive brother (Robert Pattinson) is dating a human (Kristen Stewart).  And in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse you get to see why.

Jackson Rathbone On His Choice Director For BD

Posted in Breaking Dawn with tags on April 7, 2010 by chasingcullens

It may be a tall order for us lesser mortals, but new vampire on the block, Jackson Rathbone has his heart set on a “zombie” Stanley Cooper to direct The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn when it begins lensing later this year! MTV News caught up with the young actor who played Jasper Hale in The Twilight Saga: New Moon and the upcoming The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and asked him a few choice questions about the as-yet unconfirmed fourth film in the series.

Commenting on the possibility that Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) could appear in full 3D in the near future, Rathbone was confident that the films could stand on their own two feet without the need for 3D:

“You know, I think some fillms work in 3-D,some films don’t. I don’t necessarily think it should be in 3-D,but hey, it’s up for the production to decide.”

And on that Stanley Cooper question? Rathbone commented (only half seriously I hope):

“I’m really pulling for them to resurrect Stanley Cooper, and have him helm the film. I’m really hoping for that. I want a zombie Stanley Cooper to direct Twilight 4.”

The next Twilight installment to hit our screens will be The Twilight Saga: Eclipse later this year, the film stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. Film is directed by David Slade.

Jackson Rathbone Talks Eclipse, Breaking Dawn & More

Jackson Rathbone

For many actors, all it takes is a role in a prominent film to really propel your career to the next level, which rings true for Jackson Rathbone as well. After a string of guest-starring TV stints and smaller film roles, Rathbone found himself with a role in one of the hottest film franchises out there when he won the role of Jasper Hale in the blockbuster film Twilight. He reprised the role in last year’s sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon and will play Jasper Hale again this summer when The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits theaters on June 30.

Rathbone was able to parlay that blockbuster experience even further and the actor has quite a busy slate ahead of him with roles in upcoming films like M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender but earlier this year he also starred as the lead character Stephen Grace in the fantastic horror film Dread, which was one of the eight “films to die for” in the AfterDark Horrorfest 2010. The film just hit the DVD shelves this week on March 23 and I recently had a chance to chat with this up and coming actor about the film. Here’s what he had to say.

You have quite a year ahead of you on the silver screen as well. I’m not that familiar with the books, but I hear its Jasper Hale’s big showcase in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Can you talk a bit about getting ready for that and all the action scenes you did in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse?

Jackson Rathbone: Oh yeah. Well, we get to delve into my character’s backstory, it’s his origin of being turned into a vampire. Jasper was turned into a vampire back in the Civil War, so I had to get into all the Civil War regalia, I get to ride a horse and then I turn into a vampire. It’s like a vicious side of the vampire that I play, which is kind of hidden in the books and in the other movies. It brings out my character a lot more and it’s a lot of fun.

Was that part of the appeal to playing him? Just to know that you’ll have this big showcase in the third film?

Jackson Rathbone: Oh yeah. I love playing characters that have development. Twilight was my first time being part of a franchise. The development is a lot slower, over the course of three or four films, but that’s always what I love to do in acting roles. Like (Dread‘s) Stephen Grace, where he starts off as this kind of shy guy and has to face his demons, much like the character of Jasper. This character is very uncomfortable with this new life and he’s getting more and more adjusted to it as time goes by. His adopted brother, Edward, falls in love with a human and he has to face this demon, which is not being able to kill her (Laughs).

Have you been hearing anything about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn? There has been word about possible directors popping up and I hear you are supposed to start shooting in the fall. Is there anything that you’ve been privy to that you can talk about?

Jackson Rathbone: Oh man. Not really, honestly. They don’t really tell us actors too much (Laughs) until things are really set in stone and we’re going. Even if I did know anything, I’d get in trouble for saying anything (Laughs).

Jackson Rathbone’s Next Project

Jackson Rathbone, who portrays “Jasper Hale” in TwilightThe Twilight Saga: New Moon, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and whose film The Last Airbender releases this summer, has apparently signed up for his next project, Truckstop.

Cinematical reports that Rathbone is signed onto the film to portray “a man with cerebral palsy who works at a truck stop while caring for his dying father.”

Cinematical also “hope[s] he’s bending the ear of New Moon co-star Michael Sheen, since the actor was simply excellent as Art Honeyman (a man with cerebral palsy) in Music Within.”

Another resource he might be able to use is Kristen Stewart, who portrayed a young woman with Friedreich’s ataxia in The Cake Eaters, not because the two diseases are the same by any means but because the portrayal of them both requires physical manuevering and sensitivity to those who suffer them.
