The Real Charlie Bewley

Posted in Eclipse, New Moon with tags , , , on September 30, 2009 by chasingcullens

Charlie Bewley won’t say how old he is.

He also won’t elaborate on the details of his seemingly scandal-heavy past, which he alludes to frequently, nebulously describing it as “erratic, risky, bread-line. High highs, low lows.” In passing, he mentions turbulent romances and family dramas, and says he doesn’t really drink anymore, but keeps mum on the reasons why. He is decidedly mysterious.

“I have to be,” Bewley says.

What’s known is that Bewley is a British expat who worked several snow seasons in ski mecca Whistler after immigrating to Canada several years ago. For a time, he supported himself by driving a cab (“I had the most money out of all my friends”) and later moved to Vancouver, a two-ish-hour drive from Whistler, to pursue his acting career. The choice necessitated another move to Los Angeles in September of this year.
This is, of course, because Bewley plays the Volturi vampire Demetri in the upcoming New Moon, the second installment of the culturally permeating Twilight Saga series.
“In Eclipse, you’re not going to see much, but Breaking Dawn is an opportunity for me to really show his power and if they allow me to just let loose. It’s really exciting.”

“He,” of course, is Demetri, Bewley’s vampire alter ego. He describes his character as, “vicious, aggressive, dark and efficient. Lethal. But at the same time, he’s not evil; just by our standards, the things he does are evil.”
The way Bewley sees it, Demetri “has a lot of misplaced energy, or a lot of unused energy, and that kind of manifests in his behavior. When I first started thinking about the character, I did the whole animal thing, and I just worked out that he was this killer housecat — just in the way he is and his attention is fairly ADD. But his attention is always towards something that’s moving or something that’s happening, and he wants to be part of that and he wants to get his hand on it. It’s constant. He just wants to run or chase. But he’s very kind of confined within this sort of mafioso arrangement that the Volturi coven is. He’s contained. And he just wants to go. And this is since Jane and Alec have come on the scene, because they are now the heads, and there’s no more fighting, so he’s kind of bored. He’s looking for action.”

Prior to conjuring up these characteristics (he even ran Demetri’s back story by series author Stephenie Meyer), Bewley had to earn the role. He auditioned twice for Demetri and once for the role of Marcus. He was “elated” to get the part of the Volturi tracker, as he feels he and the vampire share similar qualities.

There has been enormous speculation over the past two days about which films Robert Pattinson will do and which he will not.

In a series of threads on IMDB, for example, fans wondered whether it was true that Pattinson had been recast or dropped out of the film “Bel Ami,” in which he plays an immoral man named George Duroy, based on the short story by Guy de Maupassant. While many thought that he was recast/bowed out because of scheduling issues, Gossip Cop can confirm that Pattinson is still slated to make that movie.

But what about Pattinson re-making “Dune,” a rumor which set Twitter atwitter? While it’s true that Peter Berg remains intent on doing a re-make of the 1984 film that starred Kyle MacLachlan, Robert Pattinson will NOT be in the film, a source close to the actor tells Gossip Cop.

So it’s one in and one out for Pattinson.

Rob & Krsiten party close in Vancouver.

Kristen Stewart, Robert PattinsonAs most of you know, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Kellan Lutz and the whole Eclipse gang hit up the Players Chophouse Saturday night for a private party hosted by Jackson Rathbone‘s band, 100 Monkeys, among others.

While we’re sure our invitation just got lost in the mail, we were able to track down a friend of the Twi-crew who was in attendance at the purposely private get-together.

A rep for Players Chophouse confirms the party took place with most members of the Twilight cast present (always gotta officially check, ya know), but we were way more curious about the Robsten interaction.

Here’s what we could get out of our insider:

“Rob and Kristen came after most of the cast and they did come together,” our partygoer tells us. “They were together most of the night, but definitely interacted with other members of the cast.”

So how does the rest of the crew feel about Robsten’s relaysh? After all, there is a lot riding on this puppy-love romance working out.

“Everyone just expects [Rob and Kristen] to be together. It’s sort of a package deal with them now—everyone knows they hang out during whatever downtime they get,” Deep Twi adds.

“When you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. [Rob and Kristen] are the two [castmembers] experiencing this intense fame. It becomes a lot more manageable when you have someone else who understands what you’re going through.”

More on exactly how intense that fame is tomorrow, folks.

A letter to Rob.

The letter below says it all. It is a ‘thank you’ letter to Robert Pattinson from a very sick fan, and she also thanks Peter Facinelli. We received it in an e-mail from one of the workers at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, and we were asked not to divulge too much information due to safety reasons.

Dear Rob,

I recently received the signed New Moon book that you autographed for me in NYC while you were filming Remember Me. The wonderful ladies at the Morgan Stanley Childrens Hospital Fund especially Ms Chris and one of her friends spent alot of their own personal time and effort in getting this for me after contacting Ms C from Remember Me. I will always be truly grateful to them for this gift.

I can’t thank you enough for taking the time out of your busy life and schedule to sign this for me. It means more to me than you will ever truly know.

I am not sure how much you were told of me, but my name is Ms. MS and I am nearly 24 years old. I have a very rare lung disorder that causes my lungs to collapse at times witout any notice, and from the damage done to my lungs it has left me on oxygen nearly 24 hours a day. I can only take it off about 1 hour a day and a large percentage of my time is spent in a wheelchair as I can only walk short distances. They tell me my only other option is a lung transplant, scary right? This is a decision that I will have to make at some point but they tell me it will only give me an extra 5 – 7 years and well I just dont know. Anyway these are the breaks that life sometimes gives you.

You see I was lucky enough to win the Morgan Stanley Childrens Hospital raffle. They have looked after me since I was 16 years old which is when I first got sick. Anyway, one of the prizes I won was based around your favorite film and movie stars.

My wish was to try and either meet some of the Twilight stars especially you or go to one of your movie premieres.

Ms Chris from Morgan Stanley was trying to organize for me to come and meet you on the set of Remember Me in NYC this summer. I live in VB, but due to the timing, having to get everything worked out and the time to get clearance from your producers it was not meant to be.

I still am most grateful for the signed book from you. I will forever cherish your kind words as it gave some hope and that maybe one day things will work out for me too.

I also wanted to tell you that Peter Facinelli (Dr Carlisle from the Twilight series ) was at my local mall here in VB a few weeks ago as part of a Red Cross Blood Drive. How lucky was that right?

I got all dressed up made an effort and got my best friend to take me down to the mall wheelchair/oxygen and all . I waited for a few hours in order to see him and what a nice person he is even though he had been signing autographs for hours.

I had the pleasure of meeting him, taking a photo with him, and getting his autograph. I took my oxygen off and walked up to take the photo and I was shaking from my nerves I am sure he wondered what was wrong with me? :).

I wanted to give him this letter and ask him to give it to you but I felt a little embarrassed and he was very busy. There were hundreds and hundreds of people lined up waiting to meet him.

I love how you both are so dedicated to your work and your fans. I have attached a picture of the book you signed for me in the summer and also the picture of Peter so you know that this letter is really the truth.

I would appreciate if you could acknowledge that you received this if by chance it actually gets to you .

You seem like such a nice person and I wish you all the best in life.

Again I can’t say thank you enough.

With Love,

Ms. MS

“Got the message from Ms. MS.  Yes, I remember meeting her.  I wish her well, and will pass the message along”.
